The Terms and Conditions of Use set forth herein apply to the Web site owned, operated, licensed, or controlled by American Lawyer Media, Inc. ("ALM") Please Read These Terms And Conditions Of Use Carefully Before Using This Web Site.

By using this Web site (the "ALM Web site"), you signify your assent to these terms of use. If you do not agree to these terms of use, please do not use the site. We reserve the right, at our discretion, to change, modify, add, or remove portions of these terms at any time. Please check these terms periodically for changes. Your continued use of this site following the posting of changes to these terms will mean you accept those changes.

Restrictions On Use Of Materials. Unless otherwise noted, all materials, including images, illustrations, designs, icons, photographs, video clips, and written and other materials that are part of this Web site or any other ALM Web site are copyrights, trademarks, trade dress and/or other intellectual properties owned, controlled or licensed by ALM. No material from this Web site may be copied, reproduced, republished, uploaded, posted, transmitted, or distributed in any way, except that you may download one copy of the materials on any single computer for your personal, non-commercial home use only, provided you keep intact all copyright and other proprietary notices. Modification of the materials or use of the materials for any other purpose is a violation of ALM's copyright and other proprietary rights. For purposes of these terms, the use of any such material on any other Web site or networked computer environment is prohibited. All trademarks, service marks, and trade names are proprietary to ALM.

Forums And Public Communication. "Forum" means a discussion group, chat area, bulletin board, or e-mail function offered as part of this the ALM Web site. You shall not upload to, distribute through, or otherwise publish through a Forum on the ALM Web site any content which is libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, threatening, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, illegal, or otherwise objectionable that would constitute or encourage a criminal offense, violate the rights of any party, or that would otherwise give rise to liability or violates any law. The Forums shall be used only in a noncommercial manner. You shall not, without our express approval, distribute or otherwise publish any material containing any solicitation of funds, promotion, advertising, or solicitation for goods or services. You specifically acknowledge that soliciting other guests of the ALM Web site to join or become members of any commercial online service or other organization is expressly prohibited.
It is our policy to respect the privacy of all guests. Therefore, in addition to the privacy of registration data, we will not monitor, edit, or disclose the contents of a guest's e-mail unless required in the course of normal maintenance of ALM Web site and its systems or unless required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to: (1) comply with the law or comply with legal process served on law.com; (2) protect and defend the rights or property of law.com; or (3) act in an emergency to protect the personal safety of our guests or the public. Termination. These terms are effective until terminated by either party. These terms will terminate immediately without notice from ALM if in ALM's sole discretion you fail to comply with any term or provision of these terms. Upon termination, you must destroy all materials obtained from this ALM Web site(s) and all copies thereof, whether made under the terms of these terms or otherwise.

Disclaimer. The materials in the ALM web sites are provided "as is" and without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permissible pursuant to applicable law, ALM disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including, but not limited to, implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. ALM does not warrant that the functions contained in the materials will be uninterrupted or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that ALM web sites or the server(s) that makes the ALM web sites available are free of viruses or other harmful components. You agree that any action at law or in equity arising out of or relating to these terms shall be filed only in the state or federal courts located in New York County and you hereby consent and submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts for the purposes of litigating any such action. If any provision of these terms shall be unlawful, void, or for any reason unenforceable, then that provision shall be deemed severable from these terms and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions. This is the entire agreement between us relating to the subject matter herein and shall not be modified except in writing, signed by both parties.

Privacy Information for American Lawyer Media

American Lawyer Media ("ALM") has adopted a set of information management guidelines, which serve as the basis for our customer and advertiser relationships. These guidelines disclose the privacy policies for the entire American Lawyer Media group of websites. These guidelines have been developed with the recognition that Internet technologies are rapidly evolving, and that underlying business models are still not established. Accordingly, guidelines are subject to change. Any such changes will be posted on this page. ALM is not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of Web sites to which it may link.

What information does ALM gather and/or track about you?

Registration: When you register to receive free services from an ALM Web site, ALM requires that you supply your full name, e-mail address, and demographic information (for example, whether you are an attorney and what type of entity you work for). Customers who register must agree to the Terms and Conditions of Use for use of an ALM Web site. Similarly, when you register to receive services on an ALM Web site during a free preview period or thirty-day trial period, ALM requires that you supply your full name, street address, telephone number, e-mail address, and a unique subscriber ID. Customers who register must agree to the Terms and Conditions of Use for use of the relevant ALM Web site.

Premium Services: ALM's premium services may use an order form for you to subscribe to the premium content on the site. We collect a customer's contact information and, in some cases, credit card information to bill the subscriber for these optional services. All other areas of our sites are offered free of charge.

Anonymous Information: ALM may also gather anonymous information, which may be used by ALM or shared with third parties. This is information which does not personally identify you, but which may be helpful for marketing purposes or for improving the services we offer. Generally this information is collected through "traffic data" and may entail the use of "cookies," "IP addresses," or other numeric codes used to identify a computer.

Cookies: ALM employs cookies to recognize you and your access privileges on our site, as well as to track site usage. We use an advertising server developed by a third party to display ads on our site. Some of these ads may contain cookies that are set by third parties (i.e., advertising agencies or advertising clients). We do not have access to these cookies or any information that they may contain. Acceptance of cookies from domains other than ALM sites is optional.

IP Addresses: ALM also logs IP addresses for systems administration and troubleshooting purposes. (Your IP address indicates the location of your computer on the Internet.) We do not log IP addresses to track your session, nor do we link IP addresses to anything personally identifiable.

Credit Card Information: If you use a credit card to pay for an ALM subscription, we will continue to charge your account for the length of the subscription term or until you cancel. If you give us credit card information for any other purpose or to pay for any other type of purchase, it will be used one time only to fulfill one order, and ALM will not store your credit card information.

What does ALM do with the information it gathers and/or tracks?

Statistical Analysis and Banner Advertising: ALM may perform statistical analyses of user behavior in order to measure interest in the various areas of our site (for product development purposes) and to inform advertisers as to how many consumers have seen or "clicked" their advertising banners. ALM also uses demographic information to allow advertising banners on our Web site to be targeted, in aggregate, to the readers for whom they are most pertinent. This means that readers see advertising that is most likely to interest them, and advertisers send their messages to people who are most likely to be receptive, improving both the viewer's experience and the effectiveness of the ads. In this statistical analyses and banner advertisement targeting, we will disclose information to third parties only in aggregate form. Personal information about you as an individual subscriber or registrant will not be provided to any third party, except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, as described in our Terms and Conditions of Use.

E-Mail: Using the e-mail addresses provided at registration, ALM periodically sends promotional e-mail to its subscribers about services offered by ALM and its advertisers. ALM may contact you regarding account status, changes to the subscriber agreement, and to confirm registration. Occasionally, ALM shares data collected about subscribers with other units within the ALM group of companies or third parties whose products or services we feel may be of interest to you. Many of our subscribers find these mail or e-mail promotions valuable, whether they are shopping for merchandise, taking advantage of a special offer or purchasing unique services. If you prefer not to receive promotional materials from companies outside of the ALM group, please see the "Opting Out" provision below.

Data Security: To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the appropriate use of information, we have put in place appropriate physical, electronic, and managerial procedures to protect the information we collect online, including SSL security for credit card submissions. With whom does ALM share the information it gathers and/or tracks?

ALM shares the information it gathers, in aggregate form, with advertisers and other partners. We do not release personal information about you as an individual to third parties, except when we have your permission or under special circumstances, as described in our Terms and Conditions of Use. ALM will provide you with all of your personal information provided at registration upon request. This information will only be sent to the e-mail address on file for the subscriber ID associated with it. If you choose to participate or post messages in ALM's Forums, we will collect such information about you as you choose to disclose. If you use a third-party service co-branded by ALM, the third-party service provider may provide information about you to ALM. If you send ALM personal correspondence, such as e-mails or letters, or if other users or third parties send correspondence to ALM about your activities or postings on an ALM Web site, ALM may collect such information into a file specific to you. The Forums are intended for use by lawyers and other legal professionals. The Forums are not for use by consumers seeking legal advice. The Forums may be used only for noncommercial purposes. You may not post any material concerning promotion, advertising, or solicitation for goods or services. From time to time the Forums may be monitored by ALM in order to maintain professional decorum and to prevent prohibited uses of the Forums. ALM reserves the right to remove any material, message or discussion thread that is, in the sole judgment of ALM, inappropriate. A Special Note About Children

Children are not eligible to use ALM's services, and we ask that minors not submit any personal information to us. If you are a minor, you may use this service only in conjunction with a parent or guardian.

Upon request, ALM will (a) remove you and your personal information from our database, thereby canceling your registration; (b) correct personal information that you state is erroneous; or (c) permit you to "opt out" of further e-mail contact (excepting notification of major changes to the service) while still allowing access to the site.
